While I can't know the situation of the poem, it's certainly rich in music and imagery. Is even the title a metaphor, or is it a real place? I like the idea an apple being a suvivor of a season...a hanger-on, but I suspect this is even deeper than that.
AH yes, and that is why you are the teacher. It does have a much deeper meaning. I was refering to the "Indian Wars" of old, a lost war, yet still surviving.
